INSTALLATION

All 3 of our Saviour Skylight Protection Products can be easily installed by a competent person. Summary installation notes are provided here with videos & photos, and full instructions for these can be downloaded via the link below along with familiarisation documents for installers and surveyors for all of the Saviour products.

We advise that the installer should familiarise themselves with the type of product to be installed and the particular hazards that may be present on each site. Relevant risk assessments and method statements should be prepared prior to any roof access.

INSTALLING A SAFENET

  • Identify a safe area on the roof to unpack and open out the Safenet away from the roof edge and any other hazards that may be present.

  • The orange ratchet strap is already woven through the netting perimeter with the exception of the last 400mm to minimise any possible entanglement in the ratchet when tensioning.

  • It is often easier for two operatives each to hold out two corners of the net and holding it out below a Safetube frame walk towards the skylight, one operative at each side then carefully place both the Safenet and Safetube Frame evenly over the skylight with the ratchet strap then being fitted below the steel flange of the upstand kerb.

  • Once in position, pull any excess webbing through the ratchet drum ensuring the corners are under the skylight flange. Ensure the webbing is not twisted in the drum, pull ratchet handle back and forth and tension up the ratchet to tighten around the upstand kerb.

  • Once completed any excess webbing can be cut off or tucked neatly under the flange of the skylight.

  • Any sacrificial test cords should remain visible at the perimeter of the net and the Safetube frame can then be removed leaving the Safenet to protect the fragile skylight.

  • The galvanised 3 way elbows and tubes for two sides are already woven into the assembly in most cases dependent on size of the frame being installed.

  • Weave the remaining two plain bars through the net perimeter, connect into the elbows and tighten the allen keys whilst the frame is laid on a flat surface. The edges of the net should now be secured within the frame. Insert the four short legs and tighten the allen key fixings

  • Turn over the frame so the allen fixings are on the underside and protected from the weather.

  • Pick up the frame by the net itself or side tubes as if you were holding up a picture frame. Carrying the Quadtube frame in front of you at all times, carefully walk towards the fragile skylight to be protected and lower the Quadtube over the skylight. Position the frame evenly around the kerb and its own weight on legs will retain it in position.

  • Once installed this can also be used to allow safe installation of the standard Safenet which can be passed between the Quadtube net and skylight and secured as previously described.

  • If used to protect an in plane rooflight, once positioned it can be secured to the roof to avoid any slippage with suitable stainless straps or wires fastened to existing localised profile roof sheet fixings.
